GreatPoint Energy, founded in 2004, is commercializing a new process to produce low cost substitute natural gas from coal. The company is developing an advanced catalytic gasification technology to convert low grade sub-bituminous and lignite coals to a high value pipeline grade gas. In addition to lower cost, GPE will provide a domestically sourced fuel gas with substantially less price volatility than natural gas and a similarly clean environmental profile. Coskata is a biology-based renewable energy company. Zafgen is a product-focused biotechnology company created by GPV to commercialize novel therapeutics for the treatment of obesity and related diseases.

Sirtris Pharmaceuticals was founded in 2003 to commercialize a new family of Sirtuin activating compounds (STACs) to treat cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. The STAC technology utilizes stress induced cell defense mechanisms to slow aging and defend against disease. The company is now in the process of synthesizing chemical compounds to target specific organs and is conducting animal studies as it prepares to enter human trials. Cignal Global Communications was founded in 1995 to provide international voice and data communications services. The company raised $55 million in venture capital and over $100 million in debt financing, built an ATM-based fiber-optic network connecting 22 countries in Europe and the Far East, employed 250 people and generated $60 million in revenues. Cignal's customers included AT&T, France Telecom, Deutche Telecom, MCI, China Telecom and many other leading global carriers. In 2000, Cignal was sold to United Pan-European Communications (NASDAQ: UCOMA), one of the largest cable operators in Europe.
Coatue Corporation is a microelectronics company formed in 2001 to develop novel ionic/electronic conducting polymer materials for use in the semiconductor industry.
